What is Functional Medicine Nutrition?

Functional Medicine recognizes the highly individual nature of disease. Two persons can have the same condition but very different biochemical and genetic makeup. On the other hand two people with similar biochemical and genetic profiles can have completely different health conditions. Therefore functional medicine treats the person, not the disease.

Functional medicine nutrition aims to address the root cause of disease instead of just managing symptoms.

Careful analysis of blood chemistry, metabolic testing, GI panels, food sensitivity testing, genetic testing and hormone testing as well as a thorough diet and health history helps determine what a person’s individual needs are. Subsequently, a highly individualized treatment plan is developed that incorporates diet planning, healing the gut, lifestyle counseling, detoxing, and dietary supplementation. By rebalancing your biochemistry you can achieve optimum health and vitality.

Functional medicine nutrition creates the conditions for your body to heal itself. Conditions that can be prevented or greatly improved include:

Excess Weight

Digestive Disorders

Diabetes

High Blood Pressure

Allergies

Asthma

Auto-immune Disorders

Chronic Pain

Chronic Fatigue

Autism & ADHD

Frequent Infections

Liver & Kidney Disorders

Brigitta Jansen, MS, CN, practices functional medicine nutrition in Connecticut. Functional medicine nutrition aims to address the root cause of chronic disease instead of just managing symptoms. Her focus is especially on healing the gut using the 5R program, as well as gentle detoxing and rebalancing of nutrient levels.
