Susan is a classically trained ballet dancer; she was trained in Balanchine technique and pursued a career in classical ballet. Her early training led her to major in dance at SUNY at Purchase. She studied on scholarship at Alvin Ailey, Eglevsky Ballet and Joffrey Ballet and performed in companies from New York, New Orleans, and Florida. Susan currently teaches ballet and West African Dance at Connecticut College, where she has been a faculty member of the Dance Department since 1998.
Susan studied yoga at Jivamukti in NYC for a decade before beginning her teacher training. She completed teacher training programs in Jivamukti, Shiva Rae’s Prana Flow, and Baptiste styles of yoga. She currently teaches at Sol Vinyasa Yoga in Old Saybrook CT and Mystic Yoga Shala in Stonington CT. She teaches a variety of classes from basics to advanced vinyasa flow.
Susan began training in Pilates as a dancer at the age of thirteen and continued her studies throughout her career. In 1997 Susan completed her certification in Pilates after a year-long apprenticeship with Romana Kryzanowska. A former ballerina from NYC Ballet, Romana is one of a handful of teachers who worked with Joe Pilates, himself. The training program Susan completed included years of study, culminating in a teaching apprenticeship of 1000 hours. She has owned her own studios on Fishers Island, NY and in Gramercy Park, NYC, and currently teaches Pilates at Connecticut College, where she has been on Faculty since 1998.
Susan is dedicated to helping others experience the joy and healing qualities of movement.
